A good friend of mine has recently been faced with a very difficult and trying time in his life. I’m not talking about drama or relationship problems. I’m talking about some serious shit. Without going into details for the sake of his privacy, it has been a time of tremendous pain, doubt, and confusion for him and his family.
At a recent outdoor gathering, he came up to me and asked me if I had headphones on me. “Sure,” I said as I pulled them out of my beat up book bag. Giving me a “thanks” nod he took them, plugged them into his mp3 player and walked off by himself.
I watched him from a distance standing far from the crowd, simply listening to a song. I stood both heartbroken and amazed.
A song is helping him in some way to get through a time like this—not a book or movie, not medicine or a pill, not conversation, but a song at this moment can speak to him like nothing and no one else can.
This is why, I thought, I write and play music: to be that song for a good friend.

Man oh man – you really opened up my eyes! A Moment’s Worth was a wonderful read. The Internet has so much information, I get so caught up in so many different directions, it so hard to figure it all out. Thanks again for the post!
